A 12-year-old boy was injured while riding a carousel at the Los Angeles Zoo in 2023. This week on Tuesday (25th), his lawyer filed documents with the Los Angeles County Superior Court requesting approval for a $20,000 settlement agreement.
According to the court documents, after deducting attorney fees, medical expenses, and other costs, the actual settlement amount the boy will receive is slightly less than $11,000.
The lawsuit filed in February 2024 stated that on the afternoon of October 21, 2023, around 1:15 p.m., the boy was injured while riding the carousel. The carousel suddenly stopped without any warning, trapping the boy’s foot and causing him to fall, resulting in three fractures in one of his legs.
The boy received immediate medical treatment at the scene. The lawsuit alleges that the city government was negligent in allowing the dangerous situation to exist. Lawyers from the city prosecutor’s office denied the allegations, claiming that the related claims exceeded the statutory limitations and that the city government has legal immunity.
The carousel is equipped with 64 hand-carved wooden figures and an accessible compartment for passengers to stand.
