On May 23, multiple areas in Mingshui County, Suihua City, Heilongjiang Province, China, were hit by a tornado, causing damage to over 300 households. Videos captured the terrifying moments of the tornado’s rampage.
The massive tornado struck Mingshui County, causing extensive destruction with rooftops of many houses torn off and tall trees snapped in half, leaving behind a scene of devastation.
“Witness this! It’s a tornado! Have you seen it? Oh, this thing is truly frightening! It was less than a mile away from me, I saw it forming right before my eyes, look at this guy, from top to bottom!” a man filming the tornado exclaimed on-site.
Numerous villagers had their houses with colorful steel roofs destroyed, many tall trees broken in the middle, and electrical poles collapsed.
One witness, Mr. Li, in his 60s, expressed that it was his first encounter with such a terrifying tornado. Even now, the memory sends shivers down his spine. The entire village has been left without water and electricity, with repairs underway.
According to reports from China Central Television (CCTV), on the afternoon of May 23, tornadoes hit Yulin Township, Tongda Town, and Tongquan Town in Mingshui County, Suihua City, Heilongjiang province, lasting for about 18 minutes. Preliminary assessments indicate that 313 households had their homes damaged, with nine individuals sustaining minor injuries and some areas suffering damage to the power infrastructure. The tornado also caused over 26,000 trees in Mingshui County to break and fall, significantly affecting the transportation on local roads.
A demonstration village in Yulin Township of Mingshui County bore the brunt of the tornado’s impact, being the most severely affected village.
