The latest forecast from the mainland’s meteorological department predicts that Typhoon “Baihaidong” is expected to make landfall along the coast from Zhoushan, Zhejiang to Fuding, Fujian tomorrow evening (August 9). On the 7th, more than twenty-meter high waves were already seen along the coast of Zhejiang.
According to news from CCTV in mainland China, the China Meteorological Administration issued a typhoon orange alert and a blue alert for strong convective weather at 6 am today (August 8).
It is reported that Typhoon “Baihaidong” (a strong typhoon) as the 13th typhoon of this year, the center was located at approximately 600 kilometers to the south-east of Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province at 5 a.m. today (August 8). The coordinates were about 26.8 degrees north latitude, 126.6 degrees east longitude, with the maximum wind force near the center reaching level 14 (45 meters/second), the minimum central pressure of 950 hPa, a seven-level wind radius of 420-450 kilometers, a ten-level wind radius of 220-250 kilometers, and a twelve-level wind radius of 100 kilometers.
It is expected that “Baihaidong” will move in a west-northwest direction at a speed of 10-15 kilometers per hour, with no significant change in intensity, and is expected to make landfall along the coast from Zhoushan, Zhejiang to Fuding, Fujian on the night of the 9th to the morning of the 10th (38-45 meters/second, 13-14 levels, typhoon or strong typhoon level). After landfall, it will continue to move in a west-northwest direction with gradually weakening intensity.
According to the latest meteorological analysis, Typhoon “Baihaidong”, the 13th typhoon of this year, is continuing to approach the eastern coast of China and showing signs of rapid intensification in the nearby seas, expected to bring extreme heavy rain and strong winds, causing severe impacts on provinces and cities such as Zhejiang, Fujian, Shanghai, Jiangsu, and others.
On Friday evening, the mainland’s Ministry of Water Resources also activated a level IV emergency response for flood defense in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, and Jiangxi. Official assessments indicate a high risk of geological disasters in most parts of Zhejiang and northern Fujian.
As Typhoon “Baihaidong” approaches the coast of Zhejiang on Friday, it brings strong winds, heavy rain, and huge waves, with some areas expecting raging seas.
According to reports by the media outlet “Lan News” on Friday, in Jintang Town, Wenling City, the Golden Beach scenic spot has seen waves soaring to over twenty meters as the typhoon approaches, surpassing the height of adjacent five-story buildings. Staff have erected warning lines and promptly advised citizens and tourists to evacuate.
A video shared by internet users shows huge waves crashing at a beach in Zhejiang as Typhoon “Baihaidong” nears. Some visitors walking on a bridge by the sea seemed unaware of the dangers posed by the waves, leading to four people being knocked down by a big wave, with a child falling into the sea through a gap in the railing.
