In the latest update on the mountain collapse in Pengshui County, Chongqing, it has tragically resulted in the death of 11 people, sparking a surge in online searches on July 24th. The authorities have yet to reveal the cause behind the mountain collapse.
According to reports from various media outlets, including the Southern Metropolis Daily, as of the current moment, the massive mountain collapse disaster in Hanjia Street, Pengshui County, has claimed the lives of 11 individuals with 50 still missing. The chances of survival for the missing persons are bleak.
Due to the Chinese Communist Party’s history of concealing the true extent of disasters, the actual number of casualties in this landslide remains a subject of concern.
On the morning of July 17th at 9:08 AM, a mountain collapse occurred near Wujianqiao in Hanjia Street, Pengshui County, Chongqing. Multiple residential buildings collapsed, burying the main urban roads and trapping a large number of people.
A local resident, Chen Jianhua, revealed to the media: “Thirteen buildings collapsed, with people living inside. Some managed to escape, while others did not.” Another resident, Wei Jianzhong, also expressed: “Over a dozen buildings collapsed, spanning tens of meters. There were people living in over a dozen buildings, so probably hundreds of people are trapped inside.”
As for the cause of the mountain collapse, local resident Xie Shanshan, cited by the media, mentioned that there is a fireworks factory near the site. In the morning, residents in the vicinity heard a loud sound of rock collapsing, similar to an explosion. This led to the mountain collapse.
However, local resident Chen Jianhua informed the press that the explosion was not the reason for the landslide, but rather, it occurred after the mountain collapse due to pressure on a fireworks warehouse in the area.
As of now, the authorities have yet to officially disclose the complete accident investigation report and final conclusion of the incident, including the cause behind the mountain collapse.
