Due to the continuous heavy rainfall brought by Typhoon “Shadell”, mudslides and landslides occurred in Suichuan County, Ji’an City, Jiangxi Province, resulting in at least 1 death and 11 people missing. The flood washed away a bridge, leaving only the bridge piers.
According to the official report of Suichuan County, in the early morning around 4 o’clock on September 5th, a mudslide disaster occurred in Shixiazu, Mingkeng Village, Gaoping Town, Suichuan County, resulting in damage to 12 houses, with 8 houses completely destroyed and 4 houses partially damaged. Currently, 3 people have been rescued (2 in good condition, 1 deceased), while 11 people are still missing.
However, due to the Chinese Communist Party’s tendency to conceal information, the data on deaths and missing persons remains to be verified.
Ji’an City, Jiangxi Province, has been experiencing heavy rainfall since September 1st. From September 2nd to 3rd, Yunge Township in Yongxin County, Ji’an City, experienced continuous heavy rainfall, leading to a landslide on the Huangzhuling section of G220 National Road, causing temporary road closures.
From September 3rd to 4th, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall hit the central and southern parts of Jiangxi, with some areas experiencing exceptional heavy rainfall (such as Ji’an and Jinggangshan). Suichuan County faced intense precipitation, with Taoyuan Terraced Fields in Zuo’an Town of Suichuan County recording up to 234.7 millimeters of extremely heavy rainfall, ranking at the forefront of the province.
On September 4th, landslides occurred in multiple areas of Suichuan County, burying or washing away numerous residential buildings. The disaster-stricken area suffered from widespread water, power, and network outages.
Flood disasters have also struck multiple areas in Ji’an, Jiangxi. Around 4 o’clock in the morning on September 5th, the Yutian Bridge in Yutian Town of Suichuan County, Ji’an City, collapsed due to the impact of a strong flood peak, leaving only the bridge piers. Officials stated that the bridge had been closed prior to the collapse, and there were no casualties or vehicle losses when it collapsed.
The Jiangxi Provincial Hydrological Monitoring Center upgraded its flood warning to orange on September 5th at 1:32 in the morning. According to official information, due to the influence of heavy rainfall, it is expected that in the next 13 hours or so, the river section of the Gan River in the urban area of Ji’an City will experience a flood level about 2.7 meters above the warning level. The water level in the Xiazhan County section is still rising, currently exceeding the warning level by 0.23 meters, while the flow rate in the urban river section of Zhangshu City is increasing, with a current flow rate of approximately 13,800 cubic meters per second. The flow rate in the urban river section of Nanchang City is also increasing, with a current flow rate of about 12,800 cubic meters per second.
