Sichuan’s Zizhong County Hit by Frequent Earthquakes – Three Quakes Within One Hour

Recently, there have been frequent earthquakes in Zizhong County, Neijiang City, Sichuan Province. Within one hour this morning (April 17th), the area experienced three earthquakes successively, measuring 4.4 magnitude, 4.0 magnitude, and 3.3 magnitude.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, on April 17th at 6:22 am, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake occurred in Zizhong County, Neijiang City, Sichuan Province, with a depth of seven kilometers. At 6:56 am, a 4.0 magnitude earthquake hit the same area with the same depth, followed by a 3.3 magnitude earthquake at 6:59 am with a depth of six kilometers.

Prior to these recent earthquakes, on April 15th at 9:43 am, a 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck the region, and on April 14th at 11:37 am, a 3.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded.

Many netizens in the neighboring cities of Zigong and Neijiang reported feeling the tremors. The continued seismic activity has caused concern among residents, with many expressing their worries on social media platforms, questioning why there are earthquakes happening every day and expressing fear of a potential major earthquake suddenly striking.

According to historical records from the China Earthquake Networks Center, from the evening of April 10th to April 15th, Zizhong County in Neijiang City, Sichuan Province, experienced 14 earthquakes below 4.1 magnitude over six consecutive days, with significant shaking felt. Interestingly, two of these earthquakes had their epicenters in the exact same location.
