Due to the earthquake, landslides occurred in the nearby mountains, causing a large amount of dust to rise. A video circulating online shows a large amount of gray smoke rising from the mountains on the left side of a road, drifting towards the roadside. Another video shows landslides in the mountains further away from the road, with dust spreading over the mountains and surrounding areas.
From June 28 to July 18, 2026, mainland China experienced a total of 81 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or above. Among them, Sichuan had 30 earthquakes, Xinjiang had 18, Qinghai had 10, Yunnan had 9, Tibet had 5, Inner Mongolia had 5, and Jiangsu had 4. On June 29, 2026, at 00:12, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck Gaohsin County in Yibin City, Sichuan. Subsequently, on July 8, 2026, at 06:12 and 10:08, two more earthquakes of magnitude 5.0 occurred in Gaohsin County, Yibin City.
On June 16, 2026, at 17:06, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit the Haixi Prefecture in Qinghai. According to official reports, this earthquake resulted in one death and eight injuries. Aftershocks followed, with two more earthquakes of magnitude 5.2 occurring on June 23, 2026, at 23:29, and on July 1, 2026, at 07:44 in the Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai.
