On April 19th (Sunday), hailstorms hit multiple areas including Liupanshui and Xingyi in Guizhou Province, China. In Jinpen Township of Zhongshan District, Liupanshui, within less than half an hour, the streets and fields were covered with a 30-centimeter-thick layer of hail.
According to several internet users who posted videos and images, on the 19th, Guizhou’s Liupanshui and Xingyi experienced severe convective weather, resulting in hailstones the size of chicken eggs falling for over an hour. This caused damage to the roofs of many villagers’ houses and windshields of vehicles.
Videos showed that by nightfall, a thick layer of hail had accumulated on the streets.
On the 20th, a resident of Jinpen Township told the “Xiaoxiang Morning Post” that the temperature during the day was around 25°C, and it suddenly started hailing around four or five in the evening, with the hail only stopping by 6 p.m.
Another resident in Jinpen Township told Jixmu News that the hail was as heavy as a rainstorm, and within less than half an hour, the streets and fields were covered with a 30-centimeter-thick layer of hail. Crops such as corn and tobacco in the fields suffered significant damage due to the hail.
In response to this, officials from the Jinpen Township government stated that the extent of the damage is still being assessed by the relevant departments.
Prior to this, according to the “Beijing News,” on April 16th, Zhenyuan County in Guizhou also experienced two rounds of hailstorms, with vehicle windshields being pierced by hail and partial areas in the city experiencing water accumulation.
Local villagers posted videos lamenting, “Due to the hailstorm, all the crops were ruined. The wheat and rapeseed were almost ready for harvest, it’s so heartbreaking! Oh, it’s tough being a farmer, such a shame.”
