On Thursday, July 16, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada jointly issued an urgent announcement regarding a recall of over 13,000 Panasonic electric ovens manufactured in China due to potential risks of electric shock and fire hazards.
Affected products, including the Panasonic NB-G200 model, were sold in popular retail chains such as Costco and e-commerce giant Amazon. Authorities in the U.S. and Canada are urging consumers to immediately check their kitchens to prevent any potential dangers.
According to the official recall notice (number: 26-618) released by the CPSC, the Panasonic electric ovens were manufactured by Panasonic Wampo (Xiamen) Electric Appliance Co., Ltd. in Fujian, China.
Official investigations revealed that during the production process at the factory, a manufacturing defect occurred with the protective fiberglass sleeve inside the oven not fully covering the power cord, leading to insufficient insulation protection. This assembly flaw could potentially cause internal wiring short circuits or electrical leakage during everyday use, posing a dual safety risk of electric shock and fire hazards to households.
The affected Panasonic electric oven, made in China, features a stainless steel exterior with a temperature control knob located at the bottom and the Panasonic brand name printed on the front. The product was sold over a year and a half with the following information:
Sales period:
October 2024 to April 2026
Sales channels:
Costco.com, Amazon.com, Panasonic’s official website, and various online platforms across the U.S. and Canada.
Market price:
Approximately $170.
Recalled quantities:
Approximately 11,480 units in the U.S. and 2,184 units in Canada (Canada’s corresponding model is NB-G205).
As of now, the U.S. authorities have received five consumer reports, with four indicating that the oven caused circuit breakers or outlets in homes to trip, and one reporting a complete power outage. Fortunately, there have been no reports of fires, injuries, or property damage caused by the product so far.
The U.S. and Canadian governments are urging households with these ovens to immediately stop using them and unplug them. Consumers can take the following steps for verification and refunds:
