Collapsed Large Area of Tar Road in Guizhou Due to Severe Heavy Rain

The news of “A road in Guizhou collapsed due to heavy rain” has gained attention on the internet, trending on Weibo.

Recently, a video shared by a Guizhou netizen on social media showed a serious collapse on a local road, making it impassable. The video footage displayed a tar road in the mountainous area with multiple visible cracks, and the road base on one side near the slope suffered severe damage due to landslides. It is now impossible to pass through normally.

According to Jiupai News, information from the video uploader revealed that the road is located in Maojian Town, Duyun City. On June 18, government officials in Maojian Town acknowledged that the affected road is National Highway G321, which collapsed due to heavy rainfall on May 19.

This incident has sparked discussions online, with some netizens questioning the road design: “Was extreme weather like heavy rain not considered during the design process?”

Some netizens, including “Owen who loves freedom,” went further to question why similar heavy rain in other areas did not lead to severe road collapse incidents. They suggested it could be due to substandard construction.

Weibo user “Reunion is like a first meeting” commented: “This incident serves as a safety alarm. It is necessary for regions to establish routine inspections during the flood season, focusing on mountainous national roads and roads near water and cliffs, to proactively identify and reinforce potential hazards.”

Several netizens replied, emphasizing the importance of disaster prevention over relief efforts. With the rainy season approaching, caution should be exercised in mountainous and low-lying areas—road cracks and slope collapses can happen in an instant, so it is crucial to avoid dangerous sections and not take risks lightly.
