Heavy Rain Continues in Guangdong Province
On June 16th, in Shenzhen, a red rainstorm warning was issued for streets in Guangming District, public safety measures due to heavy rain were put in place across the city. In the afternoon, all primary and secondary schools, kindergartens, and training institutions were suspended.
According to the official weather Weibo account of Shenzhen, the orange rainstorm warning signal was upgraded to red for certain areas within Shenzhen, and the yellow rainstorm warning signal was upgraded to orange for other areas. The entire city activated emergency rainstorm defense measures, along with geological disaster weather risk warnings.
These zone-specific rainstorm warnings are issued by meteorological departments for different administrative regions or specific areas within a city, with varying levels of alert signals.
In the past 3 hours, heavy rainfall was reported in various districts including Luohu, Nanshan, Futian, Yantian, Bao’an, the Pearl River Estuary, Shenzhen Bay, Longgang District (Nanwan, Bantian, Buji, Henggang, Jihua, Yuanshan Streets), Guangming District (Yutang Street), and Longhua District (Minzhi, Longhua, Dalang Streets), with 30-40 millimeters of precipitation expected in the next 2 hours.
According to Dute’s news report, around 2 p.m. on the 16th, Longgang district experienced the heaviest rainfall in Yuanshan and Henggang streets, with a maximum 30-minute sliding rainfall of 30.6 millimeters. The stairs of a hotel in Henggang turned into a “waterfall.”
The WeChat public account “Shenzhen Education” announced around noon on June 16th that due to the zone-specific warnings, all schools were closed citywide. In the afternoon, all primary and secondary schools, kindergartens, and training institutions (excluding the Shenshan area) were closed. Students were required to stay in their classrooms before noon, and after that, they remained in the school for lunch and rest.
According to the “China Travel News,” as a result of the heavy rain, all tourist attractions in Shenzhen stopped selling tickets, and several cultural venues such as the Shenzhen International Art Museum, Longgang District Cultural Center, Guangming District cultural facilities were temporarily closed.
