On the morning of June 24th, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck Dongchuan District in Kunming, Yunnan Province.
According to the official determination by the China Earthquake Networks Center, the earthquake occurred at 10:53 am on June 24th, with a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was located at 26.00 degrees north latitude and 103.13 degrees east longitude in Dongchuan District, Kunming.
The epicenter is approximately 11 kilometers from the urban area of Dongchuan District and about 114 kilometers from downtown Kunming.
Villages within 5 kilometers include Laozuochu and Dashuijing Village; within 20 kilometers, towns such as Wulong and Hongtudi are affected. The average altitude within a 5-kilometer radius of the epicenter is about 1800 meters.
Preliminary investigations indicate that some townships (towns, streets) in Dongchuan District and Xundian County experienced tremors as a result of the earthquake.
