On Sunday morning (September 27th), a shallow earthquake occurred off the coast of Hermosa Beach, with residents in the Los Angeles area feeling the tremors, but no reports of damage so far.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), a 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck near South Bay around 8:40 a.m. on Sunday, with reports of tremors felt as far as Oxnard. The western part of Los Angeles County could feel the shaking as well.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 4 miles southwest of Hermosa Beach. Within the first hour after the earthquake, over 1,500 people reported feeling the tremor.
A dispatcher from the Hermosa Beach Police Department told the city news agency, “We felt it, but it wasn’t anything major.” The dispatcher also mentioned that the police did not receive any emergency calls related to the earthquake.
The Hermosa Beach Fire Station of the Los Angeles County Fire Department also stated that they did not receive any emergency calls related to the earthquake.
Authorities in Torrance reported that they conducted visual inspections on the city’s infrastructure and key facilities, and so far, no significant damage to critical infrastructure has been found.
It is reassuring to note that despite the tremors being felt across the region, there have been no reports of significant damage or injuries following the earthquake in Hermosa Beach. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and prepared for any future seismic activity.
