Blooming Queen District Botanical Garden with a thousand pots of Taiwanese orchids.

The 13th “Taiwan Orchid World Exhibition” was held from August 21-23 at the Queens Botanical Garden (QBG) in Flushing, showcasing over 1,000 vibrant and colorful Taiwanese orchids. The opening ceremony took place on August 21, attended by several Queens district representatives.

Within the picturesque setting of the Queens Botanical Garden, over 1,000 graceful orchids swayed in the wind, adding a touch of warmth and elegance to the garden. The organizers, Queens Botanical Garden, Taiwan Garden Foundation, and the first-time collaborating co-organizer, the Taiwan Orchid Development Association (referred to as Taiwan Orchid Association), meticulously arranged 10 artistic scenes for the orchid exhibition. The largest orchid arrangement featured elements of the American flag and the flag of the Republic of China.

The Executive Director of the Botanical Garden, Evie Hantzopoulos, warmly welcomed everyone. New York State Assembly members Nily Rozic and David Weprin, Councilwoman Min Yi Wong, among others, congratulated the opening of the Taiwan Orchid Exhibition, praising orchids as Taiwan’s pride. They expressed their support for Taiwan and encouraged everyone to visit the beautiful garden on August 22nd and 23rd to enjoy the Taiwanese orchids and activities.

The Garden Ambassador, Bai-Ling Huang, mentioned that the Taiwan Orchid Exhibition started in 2014 and has now reached its 13th edition. This year coincides with the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, offering a perfect opportunity to celebrate with orchids, art, culture, and friendship.

For the first time, the Taiwan Orchid Association co-organized the event, showcasing over 300 orchid plants representing about 20 different varieties, making this year’s exhibition the most captivating one to date.

The founder of the Taiwan Garden Foundation, Da-Yi Wu, expressed gratitude to the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) for being one of this year’s event sponsors. According to OCAC data, Phalaenopsis orchids is one of Taiwan’s most representative agricultural exports, with export value reaching approximately 180 to 200 million USD in 2025, marketed in over 60 countries globally. The United States is Taiwan’s largest single export market, accounting for about 40% of Taiwan’s Phalaenopsis orchid exports, with an annual export value ranging from 55 to 60 million USD. Taiwanese growers hold a market share of nearly 46% in the US Phalaenopsis orchid market.

The President of the Taiwan Orchid Association, Wen-Rong Huang, highlighted Taiwan’s reputation as the kingdom of orchids, boasting excellent breeding techniques, professional cultivation management, a complete industrial supply chain, and numerous breeding experts and cultivators. Each orchid at the exhibition embodies the accumulated technology, innovation, and professionalism of Taiwan’s orchid industry over the years. “This year marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in the US. Bringing Taiwanese orchids to New York is also a sincere wish from the Taiwanese people to our American friends.”

Activities at the Taiwan Orchid Exhibition include flower arrangement, jelly flower art, watercolor workshops, yo-yo demonstrations, handicrafts, orchid care classes on August 22nd (Saturday) and dough figurine art, tea ceremony, orchid care classes, and orchid sale starting at 5 pm on August 23rd (Sunday).
