Due to the continued hot weather expected to last for a whole week, Los Angeles County public health officials on Tuesday (August 4) reminded the public to avoid swimming in multiple beaches as the bacterial concentration in the local seawater is higher, which may increase the risk of illness.
According to reports from the city news agency, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health issued alerts for the following locations: a 100-yard span both up and down the coastline of Venice Pier, the entire swimming area of Mother’s Beach in Marina del Rey, the entire swimming area of Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro, and a 100-yard span both up and down at Santa Monica Pier.
Health officials stated that recent samples of seawater showed that the bacteria levels at the mentioned locations exceed California health standards, potentially increasing the risk of illness, thus prompting the issuance of a seawater advisory.
Furthermore, the advisory for the area around the drain outlet at Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica Beach has been lifted; recent test results indicate that the local seawater quality has been restored and meets state government standards.
