The state of California in the United States is currently facing strong Santa Ana winds along with extremely dry and hot weather, leading to sudden and intense wildfires in multiple areas. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a “Red Flag Warning” for Los Angeles County, Ventura County, and other regions, lasting until Saturday night. As a result, a large number of residents have been forced to evacuate, and some luxury homes have been destroyed.
The most significant active wildfires are concentrated in Southern California:
– Norte Fire: Located in San Clemente, Orange County, with a burning area of 570 acres and 0% containment. Fueled by strong winds, the fire has consumed at least 6 multi-million-dollar luxury homes, creating thick smoke at the scene. Authorities have issued multiple mandatory evacuation orders and set up emergency shelters. The state government has secured federal emergency funds (FMAG) to combat the disaster.
– Bryson Fire: Located near Encinal Canyon Road in the Malibu Mountains of Los Angeles County, burning an area of approximately 147 acres with a containment rate of around 39%. Strong winds have rapidly spread the fire, posing a threat to a local youth detention and rehabilitation facility, and forcing widespread evacuations in Malibu.
– Henderson Fire: Occurring near Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in northern San Diego County, with a burning area of 2,079 acres and a containment rate of only 20%. Heavy smoke has led to the complete closure of sections of Interstate 5, a vital highway connecting San Diego and Los Angeles.
– Peak Fire: Located at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains in Azusa, north of Los Angeles, with a burning area of about 43 acres. Firefighters have successfully contained the fire’s spread, achieving a 41% containment rate, and mandatory evacuations have been downgraded to evacuation warnings.
Currently, firefighters, helicopters, and fixed-wing fire-fighting aircraft are battling the blazes on all fronts. Officials are reminding residents in affected forested areas and urban edges to stay vigilant, prepare to pack valuable items, and evacuate according to instructions at any time.
