The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Wednesday (October 21) that Toyota is recalling over 105,794 vehicles in the United States due to a risk of fuel leaks, which could result in a fire if the leaked fuel comes into contact with a ignition source.
According to the recall notice issued by the NHTSA, the recall affects Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid vehicles manufactured between 2024 and 2027.
The recall notice mentioned that Toyota has identified a connection issue with the fuel pipe near the fuel tank in these vehicles, which could lead to detachment and fuel leakage, posing a fire hazard.
Toyota stated that as of early October, they have received 23 Toyota Field Technical Reports and 64 warranty claims submitted in the United States which may be related to this fuel pipe connection issue.
In mid-July 2024, Toyota first received reports of fuel leaks. Following an investigation, the company examined at least 600 vehicles, conducting vibration and pressure tests.
The specific models and quantities involved in this recall are as follows:
– 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser: 25,041 vehicles
– 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser: 41,955 vehicles
– 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser: 21,274 vehicles
– 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser: 17,524 vehicles
NHTSA stated that Toyota will take remedial actions, with dealers inspecting the fuel pipe connection on affected vehicles and installing an additional retaining clip free of charge to prevent detachment. If necessary, dealers will replace the fuel pipe and install the retaining clip.
Toyota will send notification letters to affected vehicle owners between November 29 and December 13 to inform them of the repair process.
Affected vehicle owners can contact Toyota customer service for any inquiries.
The recall has been assigned the NHTSA number 26V673, and Toyota’s recall numbers are 26TB23/26TA23.
