Following the landslide accident in Pengshui County, Chongqing City last week, a collapse of a loess slope occurred in Hundong County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province yesterday (July 24), resulting in at least 5 deaths.
According to reports from Chinese state media, the collapse of the loess slope in Haoyi Village, Dicun Township, Hongdong County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province, occurred at 6:49 pm on the 24th, burying a household and trapping 8 people. As of the 25th, all trapped individuals have been found, with 5 confirmed fatalities and 3 rescued and sent to hospitals.
Hongdong County is located in the southern part of Shanxi Province, at the northern end of the Linfen Basin, with its terrain consisting of mountains, hills, gently sloping plains in front of the mountains, and river valley terraces, among which hills make up approximately one-third of the total county area.
Due to the Chinese Communist Party’s tendency to cover up information, the exact number of casualties in Shanxi accidents is still pending verification.
In Pengshui County, Chongqing City, a landslide occurred last week, and the county authorities issued a situation report on the 23rd, stating that the landslide disaster had caused 10 injuries, 11 deaths, and 50 people missing.
Pengshui County released another report last night stating that 3 more victims were discovered at the disaster site, bringing the death toll to 14.
However, some netizens from Chongqing have expressed skepticism, noting that over a dozen buildings were buried, including passing buses, indicating that the death toll is definitely higher than the official figures released.
On the morning of July 7th, a landslide occurred in Rencang Village, Nanhe Town, Dangchang County, Longnan City, Gansu Province, with at least 21 fatalities and 7 injuries.
