Campus Stray Dogs Rampant, Henan Female College Student Bitten in Over 20 Places

Recently, at Pingdingshan College in Henan, a female student in her junior year was attacked by a group of stray dogs on campus, leaving her with over 20 bite wounds all over her body. The victim disclosed in a post that after the incident, the stray dogs were still wandering on campus, and the school did not take timely action, raising concerns.

According to reports from multiple mainland Chinese media outlets on April 21st, around 10:30 pm on the night of the 19th, the student, Gao, was walking back to her dormitory from the library. When she passed the intersection of the Technology Building and Zhida College Road, she was suddenly surrounded and attacked by four or five stray dogs. Despite screaming loudly in fear, the dogs bit even more ferociously, with the biting and tearing lasting for about half a minute. Fortunately, two students riding electric bikes passed by, with one male student driving the dogs away with his electric bike, while a female student supported Gao back to the dormitory. That night, accompanied by her roommate, Gao went to the hospital to receive rabies immunoglobulin and rabies vaccine, and the next day, she also received a tetanus shot.

It was reported that Gao had over 20 bite wounds all over her body, with more than 10 small wounds on her legs alone. The informed consent form for the rabies vaccine she provided indicated that she was classified as having severe exposure, with the highest level of risk.

However, after the incident, the school did not promptly capture or handle the stray dogs on campus, and stray dogs were still wandering on campus. In response, Gao posted a reminder to all students about safety precautions when going out on the morning of the 21st. This post attracted a lot of attention from netizens.

On the night of April 21st, Pingdingshan College finally issued a notification, apologizing to the injured students, stating that they had collaborated with local public security, urban management, and other departments to capture the stray dogs on campus, and were providing follow-up treatment and psychological counseling for the injured students while conducting a comprehensive inspection of safety hazards.

In recent years, with the increasing number of pet owners, the number of abandoned pets remains high, leading to a large population of stray cats and dogs on the streets. This not only contributes to environmental pollution and the risk of disease transmission but also results in frequent cases of stray dogs attacking people.

On August 21, 2025, in the Hetao District of Zhuzhou, Hunan, a stray dog in a residential area bit four people within one hour; in May 2022, a citizen in Shenyang was bitten on the left leg by a Shiba Inu that suddenly rushed out while walking their dog outdoors.
