Dozens of Houses Damaged as Village in Heilongjiang Hit by 9th Grade Gale

On the evening of July 28, a community in Wulin Town, Yangming District, Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province, was struck by a strong wind of level 9, resulting in 86 households suffering damages to their houses and disruptions in electricity and communication.

A viral video shows the aftermath of the strong wind, with roofs of numerous houses blown off, some houses collapsed, and power poles knocked down onto houses. The accompanying text mentioned that “no one was injured, but almost half of the village lost their roofs.”

On July 29, a villager from Ban Yuan Village who was away from home during the incident told the media that on the night of the 28th, most villagers were asleep when the village was suddenly hit by strong winds. His side of the village only suffered mild damages, while the other side was severely affected, with some courtyard walls collapsing, roof tiles blown away, and entire roofs made of colored steel sheets lifted off, saying, “the whole roof was blown away.”

An eyewitness, Mr. Li, described to Red Star News that the wind was extremely strong that night, accompanied by thunder and lightning, causing considerable damages to many houses, with roofs blown away, even the roof tiles of his own house.

Officials from the power supply department in Yangming District informed the media that the strong wind lasted for about 5 minutes. Besides house damages, electric poles, streetlights, communication, and power supply in the village were also affected.

According to CCTV News on the 29th, the local government of Wulin Town, Yangming District, Mudanjiang City, reported that from 22:00 to 24:00 on July 28, Ban Yuan Village experienced short but intense rainfall accompanied by level 9 strong winds, leading to partial detachment of roof iron sheets and roof tiles in 86 households.

Reported by Dahe Daily, Ban Yuan Village suffered the most severe damages, while other villages were also affected.

A viral video showed on July 29 that flash floods hit Qian Dou Gou Zi Village in Mahe Township under Ning’an City, Mudanjiang City. The raging flood crossed the railway near Dou Gou Zi Station, washing away large sections of the roadbed and leaving the railway tracks suspended above the floodwaters, disrupting railway traffic.

The Mahe Bridge on the 201 National Road from Tokyo Town in Ning’an City to the urban area of Ning’an City was destroyed by the flood. The bridgehead and connecting roads suffered extensive collapse, causing both directions of the road to be cut off by the floodwaters, turning the original highway into a rushing river, rendering vehicles completely unable to pass. According to the eyewitness, the local water level surged by about 3 meters in a very short period.

Qing Shan Village in Ning’an City also faced the onslaught of floods. The footage showed brown floodwaters inundating the village, with several cars submerged, and the Ning’an City Mahe Township Government Office building was also affected by the floodwaters.
