Today (14th), a mudslide occurred in Nandongqiao Village, Heping Town, Changxing County, Zhejiang Province, resulting in one death and three missing persons according to official reports. According to mainland China’s CCTV network, due to sudden and intense rainfall caused by extreme weather, a mudslide occurred in Nandongqiao Village, Heping Town, Changxing County, Zhejiang Province around 6:30 a.m. on August 14th, preliminarily determined to be triggered by flash floods, leading to the collapse of a house.
Videos uploaded by netizens show houses being washed away and a large number of vehicles being swept away by the floodwaters.
Local residents mentioned that they had never seen such a large flood before.
A blogger raised questions in a video, asking who knew where this flood came from and how it brought disaster to the people.
Some speculated it was related to flood discharge.
Public data shows that there are a total of 35 reservoirs of various sizes in Changxing County, Zhejiang Province, including 1 large reservoir, 3 medium-sized reservoirs, and multiple small reservoirs.
According to local official reports, Hexi Reservoir, Fushi Reservoir, and Fenghuang Reservoir began discharging water on August 11th.
Officials stated that as of 2:30 p.m. on the 14th, after preliminary verification, the disaster has resulted in one death and three missing persons.

Local official reports mentioned that the Changxing County Meteorological Bureau upgraded the orange rainstorm warning signal to a red rainstorm warning signal at 5:38 a.m. on August 14th: due to the impact of strong convective cloud clusters, the rainfall at the Heping Chenqian Kindergarten station has exceeded 170 millimeters, and it is expected that moderate to heavy rain will continue in Heping Town this morning, with hourly rainfall intensities ranging from 60 to 90 millimeters.
According to the “Zhejiang Daily”, Typhoon “Baijiadang” made two landfalls in Zhejiang Province on August 9th, bringing heavy rainfall to the region. Since August 12th, scattered thunderstorms have been frequent in Zhejiang, causing localized heavy rainfall in Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Huzhou, Shaoxing, Taizhou, and other areas, with Hangzhou experiencing heavy downpours in some areas.
On August 11th, the Zhejiang Provincial Meteorological Bureau released a meteorological assessment of Typhoon Baijiadang, stating that from 8 p.m. on August 7th to 6 a.m. on August 11th, the province received a total rainfall of 215 millimeters, ranking it as the highest rainfall from a typhoon landing in the province since 1949.
