Local officials reported on Tuesday (August 11) that a severe storm swept through the Midwest United States, resulting in at least 3 fatalities and leaving nearly a million people without power.
Deputy Sheriff Cody Low of Jennings County, Indiana, stated that during the storm, a tree fell on a house in Geneva Township, Indiana, causing the death of a 4-year-old child.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine mentioned that the storm triggered floods which hindered rescue personnel from reaching Roseville, leading to one fatality.
According to local media reports, after the storm, an explosion and fire occurred in a house in Portage, Indiana, causing one fatality. The authorities stated that the cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
According to data from poweroutage.us, as of Tuesday midnight Eastern Time, over 800,000 power outages were reported in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.
Additionally, FlightAware statistics revealed that as of Tuesday afternoon at 1:55 Eastern Time, nearly 1200 flights in and out of Chicago O’Hare International Airport had been canceled or delayed. More than 400 flights at New York’s JFK International Airport were also affected by cancellations or delays.
