On May 3rd, a section of a national highway in Haoba Town, Yunlian County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province collapsed, leading to the tragic death of a couple passing by the area.
On May 4th, Yunlian County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province reported that a slope collapse occurred around 11 a.m. on May 3rd on the G246 national highway in Haoba Village (Xiaodiming, a small local area), where two people were trapped and lost contact. The two missing individuals have been found, and it has been confirmed that they have no signs of life.
Local villagers told Dahe Daily that this landslide was quite severe, with one villager mentioning, “A couple came to rush for work in the morning and got buried inside.”
According to the local police station staff who responded to Jixin News, the couple in their 50s tragically buried in the incident were found on the night of the 3rd and the morning of the 4th.
Public reports indicate that the G246 national highway starts in Suining City, Sichuan Province, and ends in Malipo County, Yunnan Province, passing through several provinces and cities including Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, Yunnan, and Guangxi.
According to comments from internet users, “Sichuan has been experiencing heavy rainfall these days, causing the land to become soft and prone to collapse.” and “Hopefully, the collapse is not due to rushed repair work after the rain.”
On July 24th last year, a slope collapse incident occurred in Jilong Village, Longshan Town, Gulin County, Luzhou City, resulting in the collapse of a farmhouse’s rear wall and the death of three people.
On June 4th, 2023, a high-altitude mountain collapse occurred in a state-owned forest in Leshan City, Sichuan Province, leading to at least 14 deaths, 5 missing persons, and a total of 19 casualties in the incident.
