On November 15th, a sudden fire broke out on the rooftop of a commercial building near Shuyuan Road in Licang District, Qingdao, Shandong Province. Thick smoke billowed from the scene along with intense explosions.
A video circulated online shows the rooftop of the commercial building engulfed in flames, accompanied by a loud explosion followed by a large fireball. A man quickly descended the stairs from the rooftop, seemingly unharmed. The video also captured a makeshift room on the rooftop with its roof burned through by the fire, and firecrackers crackling nearby. In the video, a man asked, “Are those firecrackers?” and a female voice replied, “Yes.”
According to a nearby shop owner interviewed by Cover News, the building houses a KTV on the upper floor, which was not operational during the day and empty when the fire broke out. The fire has been extinguished.
On the evening of November 15th, the Li Village Street Office reported that around 14:50 on November 15th, a fire incident occurred on the rooftop of No. 90 Shuyuan Road. The open flames were extinguished by 15:23, and no casualties were reported at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Qingdao Emergency Management Bureau staff responded that the preliminary investigation indicated fireworks and firecrackers as the cause of the fire.
Prior to this incident, Qingdao had already experienced two other fire incidents.
On October 23rd, a sudden large fire broke out at an electric vehicle shed next to a dormitory building on the Gaomi Campus of Qingdao University of Science and Technology. The fire spread to the dormitory building and surrounding structures, resulting in multiple students being injured.
On September 25th, a shop in Qingdao caught fire suddenly, accompanied by intense explosions, causing panic among nearby residents and shop owners. Witnesses reported flames reaching several meters high, accompanied by loud explosions.
