On October 16, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) publicly released the aerial video footage of the “Jin Feng Type 4” drone for the first time. This high-speed strike drone, modified from the Kratos MQM-178 target drone through a Taiwan-US collaboration, completed actual flight evaluations in southern Taiwan. The president of Kratos Unmanned Systems Division, Fendley, disclosed during the event that both sides are in discussions to develop a “strengthened Valkyrie” based on the XQ-58 Valkyrie, to build Taiwan’s own loyal wingman.
Coincidentally, the European model U740 Valkyrie had its maiden flight in Germany just four days prior, and the US Marine Corps has already selected the XQ-58 as their first CCA (Common Control Architecture) drone. Why are the United States, Europe, and Taiwan all focusing on the same drone at the same time?
