3M recalls over 53,000 Scotch laminators following 5 fire incidents

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on Thursday (October 15) that 3M is recalling approximately 53,634 units of Scotch thermal laminators due to a risk of overheating, which could potentially lead to fire hazards. There have been 63 reported incidents related to this issue, including 5 cases of fires and 1 incident causing minor property damage, but fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

The model being recalled is TL1302Z. This laminator features a predominantly light gray and white exterior with gray accents, and the front of the machine bears the gray “Scotch” logo. The laminating slot is about 13 inches wide (approximately 33 centimeters), with a handle located on the right side when facing the machine. The model number TL1302Z is printed on a label on the bottom of the machine and on the product packaging.

According to the CPSC, these products were sold on the Amazon website between June 2024 and September 2026, with prices ranging from $44 to $56.

Authorities are advising consumers to cease using the affected laminators immediately and unplug them to prevent any potential danger.

Consumers who need a refund are instructed to contact 3M through the official recall page (https://www.scotchbrand.com/3M/en_US/scotch-brand/tl1302Z-laminator-recall/). Applicants need to confirm that their product model meets the recall criteria, unplug the device, cut the power cord, and upload photos showing the machine and the cut power cord.

Upon receiving a complete application and verifying the relevant information, 3M will issue a refund via mail. Consumers can also call 3M’s customer service hotline at 800-772-4337 for refund assistance.

After completing the necessary procedures, consumers should follow their local electronic waste recycling regulations to dispose of the recalled product properly and should not continue using or reselling it.
