Ukraine celebrated its 35th Independence Day on August 24th with a groundbreaking military parade in the capital city of Kyiv. This parade marked the first-ever military display in the world composed entirely of unmanned systems, showcasing the rapid development of Ukraine’s unmanned combat capabilities during the more than four years of the Russia-Ukraine war.
During this unprecedented all-unmanned military parade, 30 unmanned ground vehicles drove through Kyiv’s Khreshchatyk Street, while the Dnieper River featured 9 unmanned surface vehicles. The aerial formation included 18 intercept unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and 27 attack UAVs. The parade culminated in the display of 7 long-range attack UAVs, with MiG and Mirage 2000 fighter jets also participating in the aerial segment.
In February 2024, President Zelensky announced the establishment of the “Unmanned Systems Corps” in Ukraine, which was officially formed in September of the same year. Ukraine became the first country in the world to independently establish unmanned combat as a separate branch of the military. By June 11, 2025, the Unmanned Systems Corps was further reorganized into a complete force structure, consisting of 12 operational units. This day was designated as the commemorative day for the Unmanned Systems Corps.
