In a recent marathon event held in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, a surprising incident occurred where a runner dressed as the ancient Chinese official Bao Zheng, known as “Bao Gong,” was seen holding a white paper and shouting grievances among the crowd of athletes. He was then forcibly taken away by multiple police officers. The individual portraying “Bao Gong” was identified as Professor Wang Guang from Nanjing University of Science and Technology.
On the morning of November 17, 2024, at 7:30 a.m., the 2024 Nanjing Marathon and Grand Canal Marathon Series (Nanjing Station) kicked off at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center.
A viral video circulating online showed a performer dressed as “Bao Gong,” holding a white paper as he ran along with the others in the race. His presence attracted the attention of many fellow runners who kept looking back at the paper in his hand to read the contents of his grievances, with some even taking photos of him. Around five to six uniformed police officers rushed into the crowd, snatched the white paper from “Bao Gong’s” hand, and forcefully took him away.
Astute netizens noticed that the white paper held by “Bao Gong” had the words, “Although the marathon is long, the injustice suffered by Wang Guang for 8 years remains unresolved” and “Jiangsu High Court concludes marathon-style review, immediately retry Professor Wang Guang to clear his name of false charges.”
It was revealed that the performer portraying “Bao Gong” was Professor Wang Guang from Nanjing University of Science and Technology. He later posted on social media, saying, “Hello, everyone, I am Professor Wang Guang from Nanjing University of Science and Technology. It is with regret that I have to meet you all in this manner.”
Wang Guang explained, “I have been unjustly accused of embezzling 110,000 yuan for eight years. Despite ample evidence proving that this amount was returned to Wei Yuhu, Shen Xiaoping, and Gao Huaijun, the appeal in Jiangsu High Court, which should have been completed within three months, has been delayed for 2 years and 10 months. The path to my exoneration is distant and uncertain.”
The aforementioned video spread on mainland Chinese social media platforms, prompting some netizens to comment, “The whole nation knows about it,” “The professor is so helpless! Let’s support him,” “The common people are truly pitiful,” “Injustice is everywhere,” and “Ah… this society! We are all living like ants.”
Some netizens even remarked, “This method is worth replicating.”
