Recently, Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actress Michelle was involved in a serious accident while filming a new drama “The Hunter of Lies”, where she was hit in the face by a prop watch worth only about 7 Hong Kong dollars. The incident resulted in a full tear of her upper left lip and a ruptured blood vessel, requiring over 50 stitches both internally and externally after being urgently taken to the hospital. Veteran actor Eric Tsang, who also serves as a producer for the drama, expressed his shock at the incident during an event on August 23.
On August 23, Eric Tsang revealed the details of Michelle’s injury for the first time at an event. He disclosed that Michelle was shooting a heated argument scene with a male actor, who was wearing a prop watch worth only 7 Hong Kong dollars and needed to make a larger swinging motion with his arm.
During the first shot, Michelle was sitting and everything seemed fine; however, in the second shot, she suddenly stood up and coincidentally met the swinging arm of the male actor. The prop watch accidentally hit Michelle’s face head-on, shattering the watch’s glass surface and cutting her lips with the broken pieces.
According to Michelle’s post on social media after the incident, at the moment of injury, her mouth was filled with pieces of glass, the wound involved both the skin and the vermilion of her lips, causing significant bleeding with glass shards embedded deeply. She even thought she had “lost a tooth” (Cantonese term for teeth falling out). Despite concerns about her appearance, her husband, who is a doctor, promptly contacted the most professional plastic surgeon in the industry for immediate treatment upon arriving at the hospital, resulting in over 50 stitches.
Due to the sudden nature of the accident, everyone on set was caught off guard. Eric Tsang described it as “truly shocking,” and the male actor involved expressed deep remorse and continuously apologized to Michelle afterwards.
Michelle’s wound has now been removed and she has quietly returned to work. Although the area of the wound still feels stiff and there is temporary numbness in her upper lip, she remains optimistic, stating that she is “doing very well.”
