In May 2015, a young Uyghur mother, accompanied by her three-month-old triplets, returned home to visit her family. Upon her arrival at the Urumqi Airport in Xinjiang, she found herself overwhelmed, juggling her children while trying to navigate the busy airport environment.
At that moment, a couple approached her, offering to help hold her children. Grateful for their kindness, she handed her children over to them, unaware of the impending danger. Once they had taken the children into their arms, the couple’s demeanor suddenly changed. They became stern and demanded that she follow them.
It was only then that she realized they were Chinese police officers. This marked the beginning of a catastrophic turn in her life, one from which she would never fully recover.
The woman’s name is Miriguli Turxun. Years have passed since that harrowing day, yet the memories of her imprisonment and the anguish of losing her children continue to haunt her. She lives in fear of disclosing her ordeal, worried that it might put her family in China at risk. Nonetheless, she has made the courageous decision to speak out, recognizing that similar tragedies continue to unfold around her. She wishes to give a voice to the many victims who have been silenced.
Today, we will delve into the experience of this mother, whose story sheds light on the broader issues impacting her community and beyond.
