Renowned Swedish chip expert Henry Homayoun Radamson passed away in China at the age of 63 due to a “sudden illness.” The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officially announced his death 20 days after Radamson’s passing.
On Tuesday, September 1st, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Institute of Integrated Circuits and Systems Application issued a notice stating that Henry Homayoun Radamson, the institute’s chief scientist and director of the Optoelectronic Integrated Circuit Research Center, passed away in Shanghai on August 12 at 2:43 AM due to a sudden illness. His body will be bid farewell on September 6 at 9 AM at the Galaxy Hall of the Longhua Funeral Parlor in Shanghai.
Radamson was awarded the Friendship Award by the Chinese government in 2023, which is given to foreign experts working in China.
A Swedish national, Radamson was renowned for his research expertise in nanoelectronics, nanophotonics, thermoelectric materials, and infrared sensors. He obtained his doctoral degree in semiconductor materials from the University of Linköping in Sweden in 1996 and served as a senior researcher at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm for nearly two decades.
In 2012, he became a visiting professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
In 2016, he joined China under the CCP’s “Thousand Talents Plan,” relocating from Sweden to work as a researcher at the Institute of Microelectronics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, focusing on semiconductor materials made from germanium and related compounds.
The “Thousand Talents Plan” has often been associated with risks such as technology theft in Western countries. This overseas high-level talent introduction program initiated by the Chinese government has raised strong concerns and rigorous scrutiny from the United States and several Western countries regarding national security, intellectual property protection, and academic integrity.
In August 2019, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Institute of Integrated Circuits and Systems Application was established in Guangzhou, with Radamson appointed as the chief scientist.
During a 2023 interview with CCP’s official media, Science and Technology Daily, Radamson emphasized his research focus on integrating electronic and optical technologies.
