According to multiple media reports and online videos, on Sunday (May 3rd) at 2 p.m., a United Airlines flight hit a light pole on the New Jersey Turnpike while landing at Newark Airport. However, the plane was able to land safely at the airport and taxi to the gate without any injuries.
The airline confirmed that the plane “knocked down a light pole” upon entering the airport and is currently assessing the extent of damage to the aircraft. A spokesperson for the company said, “We are investigating the cause of the incident.”
There are also reports that the plane collided with a bread delivery truck. According to Breaking 911 media, around 1:50 p.m. on Sunday, a plane struck a northbound bread delivery truck on the New Jersey Turnpike. The truck was heading towards Newark City in New Jersey near an exit ramp when the accident occurred. The plane’s landing gear struck the driver’s side window of the truck, but the truck itself was not significantly damaged. The truck driver sustained minor injuries and has been taken to the hospital for treatment.
Video footage online shows a Boeing 767-400 aircraft flying overhead as it lands at Newark Airport, passing just above the heads of onlookers. However, viewers were unable to determine whether the plane collided with a light pole or the bread delivery truck.
