In a recent episode of the popular television program “Lady Boss,” hosted by Lan Xinmei and Bian Qinghua, two hopeful candidates for mayoral positions in Taiwan made an appearance. Shen Boyang, the candidate for Taipei City, and Su Qiaohui, the candidate for New Taipei City, faced a series of challenges designed to test their mental acuity, physical stamina, and overall charm.
During a segment where they examined the contents of their bags, Lan Xinmei came up with an unexpected proposal. She suggested renaming the “Elderly Card” to something that sounds more prestigious. Su Qiaohui immediately expressed her support for the idea, posting on social media to praise it as “really a powerful thought.”
In the program, both candidates were asked to showcase what’s in their bags. Su Qiaohui presented a well-organized, handwritten speech outlining her key policies, which included “Caring for the People,” “Coordinating Expertise,” and “Urban Greening.”
Then, Lan Xinmei asked both candidates for assistance, hoping to incorporate her suggestion. She candidly mentioned that she would qualify for the Elderly Card in five years and noted that many of her friends have already received it. However, she expressed her discomfort with the term “Elderly,” saying it serves as a reminder of aging, which leaves her feeling “quite unhappy.” In a moment of inspiration, she proposed renaming it to “Supreme Card” or “Honor Card.”
Su Qiaohui, who is 50 years old, lit up upon hearing this suggestion, exclaiming, “That’s not bad! I honestly think ‘Supreme Card’ has a really good feel to it.” She promised to jot this idea down in her notebook. Shen Boyang, standing nearby, shyly chuckled and nodded in agreement.
After the episode aired, Su Qiaohui took to Threads on November 5 to share the episode, once again praising the idea. She stated, “I really think renaming the Elderly Card to ‘Supreme Card’ is a very powerful thought!” and tagged Lan Xinmei in her post to express her gratitude for the idea.
Regarding Lan Xinmei’s proposal to rename the Elderly Card, Shen Boyang addressed the media on the morning of November 5 while campaigning in the Anju Market area of Wenshan District. He remarked that the idea is quite sensible, emphasizing that the wisdom and experiences of older adults are invaluable to society and considered an important asset. Thus, he expressed that “Honor Card” would indeed be a fitting name.
Many netizens commended Lan Xinmei for her understanding of the sentiments of seniors, believing that replacing the term “old” would provide a better psychological experience for the elderly. Some humorously envisioned future bus announcements that might say, “Supreme, please board,” finding it to be remarkably cool and dignified. Other suggestions emerged from users who proposed alternatives like “Respectful Card,” “Happy Aging Card,” or “Prosperous Card” as more neutral and gentle names for the benefits program.
At 60 years old, Lan Xinmei has long been celebrated in Taiwan’s entertainment industry for her ageless, fashionable, and vibrant image. As the iconic figure behind the longevity-focused show “Lady Boss,” she has earned the title of “Fashion Guru.” Not only does she boldly experiment with various fashion styles and haircuts, but she also maintains strict discipline over her appearance and physique, often showcasing her confidence on social media and during her show. Her witty and relatable dialogue, alongside her recent rejection of the label of “Elderly Card,” reflects her youthful mindset and determination to resist aging in the conventional sense.
