This year marks the 37th anniversary of the “June 4th” incident. Epoch Times has released over two thousand previously unrevealed historical photos of the “June 4th” events, allowing that period of time, which the Chinese Communist Party has tried to cover up and erase, to see the light of day.
In the spring and summer of 1989, a student democracy movement that shook the world ignited in Tiananmen Square in Beijing and quickly spread throughout China. Millions of students and citizens took to the streets to peacefully and rationally express their opposition to corruption and their demand for democracy and freedom. However, the top leaders of the CCP secretly mobilized a large number of regular troops and launched a comprehensive crackdown on civilians in the early hours of June 4th using tanks and machine guns. According to unofficial estimates, the CCP shot and killed thousands to tens of thousands of people.
An official photographer who was present at the scene in the past year captured this history in its entirety, and the extensive rolls of film he captured remained sealed for 37 years. In the final stage of his life, this elderly man entrusted Epoch Times with these precious photos for public release, which includes both color and black-and-white photos, totaling over 2000 images. Recently, the CCP authorities have been threatening and harassing individuals they believe are associated with these photos, including Chinese and American citizens.
For 37 years, the CCP has continued to cover up and suppress the truth of the events, falsely labeling the students’ peaceful protests as “counter-revolutionary riots” and denying the fact that the military opened fire on civilians. However, history will not disappear due to censorship.
To fulfill the wishes of this elderly man, Epoch Times is releasing this batch of “June 4th” photos that have been dormant for 37 years in batches for the first time, leading readers back to that heartbreaking historical scene, reminding the world not to forget the CCP’s bloody massacre of its own people. The CCP continues to intensify its persecution and intimidation of innocent people today, including threatening Epoch Times staff not to publish these photos.
