On Sunday, October 11, 2026, a tragic accident occurred on the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir highway near the Akhisar toll booth in the Manisa province in western Turkey. A tourist bus collided with a truck, resulting in the death of 11 individuals and leaving 27 others injured.
According to a report from Türkiye Today, the office of the Manisa province governor received a report of the accident at 11:11 am on Sunday. The tourist bus involved was traveling from Bursa to Izmir en route to Pamukkale in Denizli province.
Following the accident, a significant number of ambulances, firefighters, police, and other emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene, and the injured were promptly transported to hospitals for treatment.
The governor’s office released a statement regarding the incident, stating, “Medical and rescue teams have rushed to the scene and swiftly initiated rescue operations for the affected individuals.”
Footage from the scene of the accident showed the overturned tourist bus with severe damage to its body, along with blue body bags laid on the ground nearby; the truck carrying wooden boards also overturned.
Governor Vahdettin Ozkan of Manisa province inspected the accident site and received briefings from relevant officials.
Ozkan mentioned that the bus was carrying 34 passengers and 3 staff members, while the truck had one driver.
He reported that the accident resulted in 11 fatalities and 27 injuries, with one person in critical condition.
The governor further stated that various ongoing operations at the accident site are being coordinated by the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Burhanettin Duran, the head of the Turkish Presidency’s Directorate of Communications, extended condolences to the families and friends of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured individuals.
