On Wednesday (9th), the Ukrainian government stated that the large-scale airstrikes launched by Russia on Kyiv resulted in at least 5 fatalities. The Russian Ministry of Defense, on the other hand, claimed that Ukraine’s drone and missile attacks on the southern Krasnodar border region resulted in 4 deaths.
Following reports from multiple media outlets, after a brief ceasefire during the visit of American peace negotiators, Russian forces resumed airstrikes on Kyiv on the night of the 8th local time. The Ukrainian State Emergency Service stated that early on the 9th, the massive missile and drone attacks launched by Russia on Kyiv had resulted in at least 5 deaths and 35 injuries.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko mentioned that early on the 9th, a 24-story building was targeted in a Russian drone attack, with rescue teams rushing to the scene.
According to reports from Ukrainian media, 14 tall buildings, a school, and several warehouses suffered damage in the Russian airstrikes.
Both the Ukrainian Border Guard Service and Oleh Kiper, the Governor of Odessa Oblast, stated on the 9th that Russian drones also attacked the border crossing point of Starokozache between Ukraine and Moldova, resulting in two deaths and 3 injuries.
In a post on Telegram, the Border Guard Service wrote, “Early on the 9th, Russia used attack drones to strike the Starokozache international highway checkpoint located on the Moldova border.” The checkpoint has been temporarily closed after the attack.
The agency stated that the attack caused civilian casualties near the checkpoint, led to fires, and damaged some vehicles and infrastructure.
On the 9th, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Russian forces shot down 596 Ukrainian drones overnight. Among these, the Ukrainian attack on the city of Novorossiysk resulted in at least 4 deaths, including a child, and 29 injuries.
Novorossiysk, being a crucial hub for Russia’s major exports such as oil, petroleum products, and grains, has become a frequent target of Ukrainian drone attacks.
Veniamin Kondratyev, the Governor of the Krasnodar border region, also mentioned that in the town of Anapa in the region, three private residences and a kindergarten were damaged by drone debris, fortunately without any injuries.
Earlier on the 9th, Andrei Kravchenko, the Mayor of Novorossiysk, stated that drone debris fell within several industrial areas and near a residential building, causing fires.
