On September 14th, a seemingly ordinary day for most people, held extraordinary significance for a family in Iowa, United States, as five consecutive generations of family members were all born on this day. This family has set a Guinness World Record for the most generations of family members born on the same day.
According to the Guinness World Records website, the five members include the youngest, a boy named Arthur Bell born on September 14th, 2025, his mother Emma Bell (born in 1997), his grandfather Fred Harlow (born in 1972), his great-grandmother Addie Harlow (born in 1949), and his great-great-grandfather Wilber Harlow (born in 1907).
While there have been several families in the past who have achieved the record of four generations born on the same day, this marks the first time that five generations have refreshed this 118-year-old record.
Fred, who falls in the middle of these five generations, shared his thoughts on setting this world record during an interview with KMTV on September 15th. He expressed, “You know, when you have children, they are a gift, a very unique gift. We always thought it (having birthdays on the same day) was cool, but I never imagined we would become record holders.”
Emma mentioned that she was aware of her family and some others having four generations born on the same day, but it never occurred to her to apply for a world record certification. It wasn’t until after her grandmother Addie passed away and she became pregnant with her second child, Arthur, that she changed her mind.
She recalled her grandmother always saying, “You have to give birth to a boy on September 14th.” However, when she had her first child prematurely, with Arthur, she was determined to give birth on the due date, which happened to be September 14th, and Arthur was born on that day.
Fred mentioned that Arthur set the record. They believe that Addie’s spirit in heaven would be extremely excited about this achievement.
Emma stated, “I think she would be proud and impressed that we really had a boy on the 14th.”
She also pointed out an interesting feature of their five generations, starting with Wilber, the genders followed as male, female, male, female, male.
As for whether the next generation of Arthur will once again break the world record, both Fred and Emma do not want to put pressure on Arthur’s future children. For now, they will continue to celebrate their birthdays on the same day and commemorate setting the world record.
There is a unique family in Pakistan that also holds a world record for the most family members born on the same day.
