“No Opposition Party in Hong Kong: One Country, Two Systems Bankrupted, Taiwan Warned”

On December 14, the largest pro-democracy party in Hong Kong, the Democratic Party, held a party member conference. According to the voting results, the conference officially decided to dissolve the Democratic Party. This means that Hong Kong no longer has an opposition party.

The Chinese Communist Party promised that Hong Kong’s system would remain unchanged for 50 years, known as “one country, two systems,” in order to serve as a model for Taiwan and to attract Taiwan. However, before even half of the time has passed, they eagerly tightened control over Hong Kong’s freedom, implementing the Hong Kong National Security Law and Article 23 of the Basic Law, effectively shutting down even the avenues for criticizing the government. The bankruptcy of “one country, two systems’ has served as a wake-up call for Taiwan!
