On Monday, May 18th, after days of anticipation, New York City Mayor Mamdani finally met with New York business tycoons including Citadel CEO Griffin and others.
According to the mayor’s office announcement, Mamdani held separate meetings with Griffin, JPMorgan Chase CEO Dimon, and Goldman Sachs CEO Solomon at the mayor’s residence.
Sources informed the New York Post that this meeting was as “vague and broad” as speculated by the public.
During this time, New York’s billionaires have been uneasy about the mayor’s proposed “second home surcharge.” Last month, after Mamdani filmed a promotional video in front of Griffin’s Manhattan mansion, Griffin and other wealthy individuals expressed intentions to pull their investments out of the city.
It is believed that Monday’s meeting was clearly the mayor’s latest move to court these big shots. It is reported that Deputy Mayor Julie Su, of Chinese descent, and other business leaders were also present at the meeting.
The mayor’s office declined to comment to the media.
