The stunt, in which she descended rapidly from a height equivalent to ten stories, holding onto a ring with just one hand, displayed a level of danger far beyond conventional wire stunts. Netizens jokingly questioned whether she was filming a movie or bungee jumping due to the intense nature of the scene.
The leaked clip showed Ju Jingyi being suspended at approximately 30 meters, equivalent to ten stories high, descending rapidly in the night. She relied solely on one hand gripping the ring, with no other support for her body, landing with swift and even graceful movements. Netizens praised her for appearing as if she was bungee jumping, being breathtaking, and admired her beauty and courage.
While such heights and speeds are rare in mainland Chinese drama wire stunts, and such scenes are usually completed with multiple angles editing or stunt doubles, several entertainment accounts claimed that Ju Jingyi herself completed this high-risk stunt without a stunt double.
In recent years, actresses like Liu Yifei in “Dream of Splendor” and Zhao Liying in “The Journey of Phoenix” have received acclaim for their water wire stunts and high-altitude fight scenes, earning the label of “no use of stunt doubles.” However, Ju Jingyi’s “single-handed rapid descent” in terms of height and complexity poses a greater challenge. Although many netizens admire her professionalism and courage, the lack of official safety explanations outside of the thrilling shots has raised concerns about the safety measures for film and television crews.
According to on-set staff, Ju Jingyi, who had previously shown signs of acrophobia while filming “The Moon Scale Chronicles,” overcame her fear to portray the character “Su Lü Xia” in “万花世界,” a strong character who traverses worlds with extraordinary skills and deep internal power. The production team and artists believed that using a stunt double would compromise the close-up shots of the high-speed descent and the character’s dominance.
Insiders familiar with the industry explained that although the leaked footage appeared extremely thrilling, the wire cables used on set typically have a weight-bearing capacity several times that of the actors and incorporate multiple safety features, such as double wires and air cushions, providing actors with the confidence to overcome mental barriers. While the footage did not overtly show air cushions, it is possible that they were not captured due to filming angles and lighting conditions.
As a member of the mainland Chinese girl group “SNH48,” Ju Jingyi’s contractual dispute with her former management company, Silky Media, has evolved into a prolonged legal battle. Despite being in a state of ongoing litigation, Ju Jingyi’s current business resources and film projects have not been substantially hindered, showcasing a trend of significant career growth.
Ju Jingyi’s camp maintains that her original management contract expired on June 18, 2024, with a clear expression of her intention not to renew.
