A fatal traffic accident occurred in Manhattan’s Chinatown on the morning of September 10th. A truck turned onto the sidewalk at the intersection of Bowery St. and Canal St., hitting three pedestrians, resulting in the death of a 77-year-old man and injuring two women. According to Chinese eyewitnesses, both the deceased and the injured are Chinese.
The police stated that the accident took place around 10:20 a.m. A 66-year-old man was driving a Chevrolet truck and was preparing to turn right onto Bowery St. when the vehicle suddenly veered onto the sidewalk, hitting a man and two women.
After hitting the pedestrians, the truck did not stop immediately but continued driving towards Hester St., colliding with another car before coming to a halt.
Following the accident, the three victims were taken to the hospital for treatment. The 77-year-old man, who was critically injured, did not survive. The two injured women are currently receiving treatment at the hospital and are in stable condition.
An employee at a hotel across the accident scene told reporters that he witnessed three people being hit by the truck. “All three individuals are Chinese, a man and a woman appeared unconscious, and another woman was injured but conscious, calling someone to inform them that she was in pain.”
At the scene, the reporter observed that the truck’s tire was flat, indicating a possible blowout.
The driver of the truck has been taken into custody by the police. The New York City Police Department’s Collision Investigation Squad has arrived at the scene to investigate what caused the truck to veer onto the sidewalk.
As of the time of reporting, the authorities have not disclosed the identities of the deceased, the injured, or the driver involved. The traffic in the area of Canal St. and Bowery St. has been significantly affected by the accident, with the police advising motorists to expect delays on nearby roads.
