On August 7th, the same day when the Communist Party of China’s Quanzhou City Committee Secretary, Zhang Yigong, was officially announced to have fallen from grace, news came out that the former Xiamen City Committee Secretary, Cui Yonghui, and Nanping City Mayor, Lin Jian, were also taken away.
Independent commentator Cai Shenkun revealed on X platform that Cui Yonghui, who was removed from his position as Xiamen City Committee Secretary in April this year, was taken away by the discipline inspection commission on the morning of the 7th. At the same time, Nanping City Mayor Lin Jian was also taken away.
It seems that the previously calm political scene in Fujian Province is about to face a storm.
On April 3rd, Liu Guozhong, a member of the Communist Party’s Political Bureau and the former Secretary of the Xiamen Municipal Party Committee, Lin Tao, was transferred to the position of Secretary of the Xiamen Municipal Party Committee. The whereabouts of the former Secretary of the Xiamen Municipal Party Committee, Cui Yonghui, remain unknown. Cui Yonghui used to serve as the major domo during the period when Yn Li, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party, was in charge of Fujian.
Cui Yonghui was born in November 1970, from Hubei Province. He previously served as the Mayor of Jingzhou City and was later promoted to Vice Governor of Fujian Province before being transferred to Xiamen in 2021. He was a candidate member of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party and was considered a rising political star.
Also on August 7th of this year, Zhang Yigong, the Secretary of the Quanzhou Municipal Committee, was officially announced to be under investigation.
According to Hong Kong media Ming Pao, sources claimed that Zhang Yigong was implicated in the case of Lin Xiucheng, the former chairman of San’an Group, once the richest man in Xiamen and known as the “LED king of China”.
Lin Xiucheng, the actual controller of San’an, and his son-in-law Lin Kechuang were both arrested in March and April. It is reported that they were involved in a bribery case concerning Hu Henghua, the mayor of Chongqing.
Ming Pao reported, citing sources, that Zhang Yigong’s downfall this time is related to the investigations carried out by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection in Chongqing. There are also some officials in Fujian who are involved in the case, including a former mayor of a prefecture-level city who once worked in Xiamen.
However, the Hong Kong media did not specify the names of the officials involved in the case.
Official reports regarding the investigations on former Xiamen City Committee Secretary Cui Yonghui and Nanping City Mayor Lin Jian have not yet been released.
