Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office announced on August 5 that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has joined the investigation of the Morgan Hill party shooting case and is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to a resolution.
According to authorities, individuals who provide information that helps identify the suspects involved and leads to their arrest may receive a maximum reward of $20,000 provided by the FBI. The FBI has also created a digital media platform for the public to upload photos, videos, and other digital data related to the case.
Scott Schelble, head of the FBI’s San Francisco Division, stated that the FBI, in collaboration with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, will utilize all available resources to identify the suspects and hold them accountable. He emphasized that any tips could advance the investigation, assist in solving the case promptly, and bring justice to the victims, their families, and the Morgan Hill community.
Sheriff Robert Jonsen of Santa Clara County mentioned that there were hundreds of people present at the scene when the incident occurred and believes that some individuals may have witnessed the events or have crucial information.
Authorities urge individuals who captured photos, videos near the scene at the time of the incident, or possess any relevant digital data to visit the FBI’s dedicated platform (https://www.fbi.gov/morganhillshooting) to upload the information. Even if the footage did not capture the shooting directly, it could contain significant details helpful for the investigation. The public can also call 1-800-CALL-FBI to provide tips, and anonymity is ensured for those who wish to provide information anonymously.
The incident took place on the evening of July 25, where seven individuals were shot, resulting in one fatality and six injuries, all of whom were adults.
Around 10:16 p.m. that night, the authorities received a report of individuals throwing bottles at passing vehicles outside the Morgan Hill city limits on Hale Avenue directly under Santa Clara County jurisdiction. Upon the arrival of the initial responders, gunshots were heard, prompting the party attendees to flee in all directions.
Investigators mentioned that the impromptu birthday party was unauthorized, with the organizers promoting the event through social media, attracting hundreds of attendees. Law enforcement continues to follow leads, interview relevant individuals, and gather evidence to determine the identities of the suspects. The motive behind the shooting has not yet been disclosed.
