SpaceX to Enable Robots to Build Industrial Base on the Moon

SpaceX plans to utilize humanoid robots to undertake tasks such as building infrastructure, equipment maintenance, and resource processing on the moon, aiming to reduce the prolonged stay of astronauts and establish sustainable industrial production capabilities for future deep space exploration.

According to Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, the company intends to utilize humanoid robots to construct automated factories on the moon. These robots will be responsible for tasks like building infrastructure, maintaining equipment, and processing resources, thereby reducing the reliance on extended astronaut stays on the lunar base and paving the way for sustainable production capabilities for future deep space exploration.

Musk mentioned that the company’s satellite internet service, Starlink, will provide broadband connectivity between humanoid robots on Earth and in space. SpaceX also aims to lower the cost of human lunar missions by using reusable rockets and gradually building space infrastructure, including lunar bases, resource development, and interstellar transportation.

Musk stated that his company has the capability to build solar arrays and large-scale electromagnetic accelerators on the moon, facilitating industrial activities beyond Earth. He predicted that SpaceX could achieve revenues of $1 trillion as early as 2029 and plans to launch the space orbit data center Starmind starting next year.

Industry experts believe that the moon’s low-gravity environment and abundant mineral resources make it a crucial candidate for future space manufacturing. The use of robots for remote or autonomous operations is seen as a key technological direction to reduce lunar development costs and enhance mission efficiency.

At present, SpaceX has not officially disclosed the timeline, investment scale, and specifics of robot deployment related to these plans.
