Failing Driving Test Twice in a Row, Ni Ni: The Mistake Was Being Eager to Prove Myself

In a recent interview with a magazine, popular mainland Chinese actress Ni Ni opened up about her experience while attempting to obtain her driver’s license. During the interview, she candidly revealed that she had failed the practical driving test, known as the “Subject Three” or road test, on two separate occasions.

Ni Ni attributed her failures to a lack of preparation. She had only practiced for four days before confidently heading to the test, driven by a desire to prove her abilities. Her eagerness to acquire the license led to carelessness on her part; ultimately, she needed three attempts to finally pass the exam.

Having recently received her driver’s license, Ni Ni reflected on her experience, noting that her brief time at the driving school had instilled in her a false sense of confidence. Both her instructor and she believed that her skills were sufficient, which contributed to her overconfidence. This hurried approach to obtaining her license led her to overlook crucial aspects of driving during her tests.

Interestingly, this experience taught Ni Ni some valuable lessons. She acknowledged that driving can be a matter of life and death, and had she obtained her license without facing any difficulties, she might not have approached the road with the necessary caution. This journey also served as a reminder for her not to become complacent in any endeavor, reinforcing the importance of being grounded and attentive, akin to “gripping the steering wheel tightly.”

In her acting career, Ni Ni has previously starred in various films and television series, including “The Disappeared Her” and “The King’s Daughter,” where she showcased thrilling driving scenes. It’s intriguing to note that at the time of filming, she did not hold a driver’s license, relying instead on stunt work and acting skills to portray those intense moments behind the wheel.

Ni Ni gained fame for her role as Yu Mo in Zhang Yimou’s film “The Flowers of War.” Since her debut, she has experimented with numerous styles, and in recent years, she has become a darling of the fashion world. She was even recognized by the British fashion magazine “I-Magazine” as one of the “Most Fashionable Faces in Asia.” Her editorial shoots have displayed a range of looks, from fresh and charming to bold and stylish, capturing the attention of the fashion industry.

Interestingly, many celebrities have shared their own comical stories surrounding their driving tests, often resulting in humorous incidents due to various unfortunate mistakes.

In the reality show “New Driver Arrivals,” former member of the K-pop group Cosmic Girls, Wu Xuanyi, provided an epic and comedic spectacle during her driving test. While other participants practiced smoothly on the driving range, she was still busy memorizing test questions. Anxious and confused about the theoretical part of the exam, she ended up attempting the first subject six times before barely passing. Viewers jokingly dubbed her the “black hole of driving theory.”

Similarly, male singer Zhou Shen’s driving lessons unfolded like a comedic disaster film. Standing at only 161 centimeters tall, he often found himself dwarfed by the steering wheel and seating. Each time he entered the vehicle, he seemed lost and confused. During a simulated driving test for Subject Two, he humorously avoided all correct maneuvers, failing the reverse parking, side parking, and hill start exams, resulting in a score of zero. His helpless expression while sitting in the car quickly turned into a viral meme across social media.

Actress Qi Wei, known for her assertive driving style, also had her share of misunderstandings while learning to drive. Upon getting behind the wheel, she aggressively pressed the accelerator, only to have the engine roar alongside a distressing sound from the vehicle. It turned out that she had completely forgotten to release the handbrake, leading to a sudden burst of speed that prompted her instructor to hit the brakes, remarking that she was indeed a “hardcore girl.”

Fan Chengcheng became the center of attention for his bewildering driving maneuvers during the same driving program. Overwhelmed with nerves during a Subject Three simulation, he hilariously misinterpreted commands in a way that made it sound like he was attempting a “request for takeoff.” Although he eventually received his driver’s license, the driving school he attended closed shortly after the show aired due to mismanagement, leading viewers to joke, “His driving skills were so strong that they caused the driving school to go bankrupt.”

These amusing anecdotes illustrate the challenges many face while learning to drive, highlighting that even those in the public eye are not exempt from the struggles of mastering this essential skill.
