Discussion in the News: Mysterious Forum Post Sparks Speculation on Hu Jintao’s Life and Death

In the early hours of Friday (July 31), a screenshot of a “Weibo post” from a well-known Chinese media figure, Qin Feng, with 14.62 million followers, circulated on overseas social media. The post, made at 04:11 (Thursday 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time), stated that former leaders, including LYQ and HHF, suffered food poisoning during dinner and despite efforts to save them, passed away at 4 o’clock.

While the post did not directly mention Hu Jintao, the initials “LYQ” seem to refer to Hu Jintao’s wife, Liu Yongqing, and “HHF” is likely to reference their son, Hu Haifeng, who is the Deputy Minister of Civil Affairs in China.

Official media outlets like Xinhua News Agency and CCTV have not reported on this incident. However, upon examining the screenshot, although the profile picture matches Qin Feng’s Weibo account, the post format does not align with the current layout of Weibo’s web version, Apple iOS version, and Android version applications. Additionally, the date only reads “7-31” without specifying the year. The label “blogger” next to Qin Feng’s name also indicates noticeable differences in the format.
