Brazil has been shocked by a horrifying string of murders, with the police recently launching a joint operation to capture the suspect. This man is believed to have committed at least 16 homicides in a span of just three months, and upon his arrest, he calmly confessed to having started killing people at the age of 13, having taken the lives of as many as 80 individuals over a period of 20 years.
According to Brazilian authorities, in a 48-hour joint operation on September 13 in the state of Paraíba in the northeast region of Brazil, police successfully apprehended a 33-year-old repeat offender named Jorlan Alves da Silva, who is suspected of multiple murder charges in the town of Mulungu.
During his time on the run, da Silva attempted to disguise himself by wearing women’s clothing, a wig, nail polish, and even carrying a 2-year-old child who is unrelated to him, in an effort to conceal his identity. However, when his tattoo was revealed due to the shifting of his dress, the police were able to confirm his identity.
The 2-year-old child, used as a “shield” by da Silva, is reported to be in good health and is now under safe protection. Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine how the toddler came into his custody.
Reports from local media outlets such as O Globo, Record R7, and iG Último Segundo indicate that da Silva was a professional hitman for Rio de Janeiro gangs, with five arrest warrants against him. He had been released from prison at the end of May this year after serving 5 to 6 years for various crimes. However, during his short 3-month bail period, da Silva is suspected of ruthlessly committing at least 16 cold-blooded murders in the region of Vale do Mamanguape.
Following his arrest, da Silva calmly admitted to starting his killing spree at the age of 13, with his first victim being his own father. He confessed to taking the lives of as many as 80 individuals over a span of 20 years.
Detective Douglas Garcia, who is leading the investigation, described the number of 80 murder cases as staggering. While only 16 cases are currently supported by technical evidence in police possession, the authorities are taking da Silva’s astonishing confession of “killing 80 people” very seriously. They have initiated a collaborative effort with various police forces to re-examine unsolved cases from the past 20 years.
If da Silva’s confession is ultimately confirmed, he will surpass the infamous Brazilian serial killer Pedro Rodrigues Filho, known as “Pedrinho Matador,” who was convicted of 71 murders, becoming the most notorious and prolific serial killer in the recorded history of Brazil.
