Former US President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, revealed to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on Friday (August 7) that his father’s cancer cells are spreading. He described the situation as “extremely debilitating” and “very painful.”
“It’s really tough,” Hunter Biden said in an interview with the BBC, “Watching all of this is really heartbreaking.”
“I really wish he would complain a bit more because the situation is really not optimistic. The cancer has spread, moving to the bones and other parts. It’s very painful and extremely debilitating in many ways, but he still insists on being active and continues to do what he needs to do,” he added.
Former First Lady Jill Biden previously told NBC News in June that Joe Biden would live his remaining years alongside cancer.
“He’s doing okay,” she told TODAY show host Craig Melvin, “I mean if he was just diagnosed with prostate cancer, that would be one thing because that’s curable, but once it’s metastasized to the bones, it’s a different story. So I think Joe will be living with cancer for the rest of his life.”
In May 2025, Biden’s personal office revealed that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, with cancer cells already spreading to the bones. In September of the same year, the Biden family announced that Joe Biden had completed a course of radiation therapy and hormone therapy, with unclear prospects for further cancer care. Biden’s office also disclosed that he had undergone surgery to remove cancerous skin cells.
During his presidential term from 2021 to 2025, Biden’s physical health and mental acuity had been closely monitored. In June this year, Biden attended the opening ceremony of the Barack Obama Presidential Library in Chicago. Biden had served as Obama’s Vice President from 2009 to 2017.
Biden’s presidential memoir is set to be published on November 17th.
