On Saturday, October 31, the United States Embassy in Moscow issued a security alert regarding the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve, warning that a significant incident resulting in major casualties could occur.
In a statement, the embassy indicated that there is a credible threat of an event leading to serious injuries or fatalities at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve, located at 1 Dolskaya Street, Moscow, with postal code 11569. The U.S. government is in coordination with Russian authorities in response to the situation.
The alert advised the public to avoid the Tsaritsyno Museum area and to “remain vigilant and steer clear of crowds.”
Details concerning potential attackers have not been disclosed by the embassy, leaving many questions unanswered about the nature of the threat.
The Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve is situated in southern Moscow and was originally constructed in 1775 as a summer residence for Empress Catherine II of Russia. This expansive complex features royal palaces and landscaped parks, making it a popular tourist destination, especially during weekends.
According to the Russian Telegram channel “Baza,” which is said to have connections with law enforcement, the park has been closed to the public, allowing only exit for individuals currently inside, while law enforcement personnel were deployed on-site.
Previously, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation reported that they received intelligence from the United States regarding preparations for a terrorist attack. Sources from the Russian news agency stated that “relevant operations are currently ongoing.”
In light of the unfolding situation, the U.S. Embassy’s warning also urged residents in Moscow to ensure that their mobile phones and other devices are fully charged, to stay alert to their surroundings, and to reevaluate their personal security plans.
This is not the first time the U.S. has issued warnings regarding threats of attacks in Russia. Earlier in March 2024, a similar alert was given when, just weeks prior, the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISIS-K) launched an attack on a concert hall in Moscow, resulting in the deaths of over a hundred people.
In related events, on Friday, October 30, Ukraine executed an attack on a refinery located in southern Russia. Reports from the Wall Street Journal indicate that the day prior, Russian forces had conducted drone and missile strikes within Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of at least 27 civilians.
As tensions continue to escalate, both local and international communities remain on high alert, responding to the precarious security landscape marked by recent military engagements and looming threats of violence.
