On Wednesday afternoon, a shooting incident occurred in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, resulting in at least 2 deaths. Sources reported that the suspect has died by suicide.
According to the Minneapolis city government’s post on social media platform X, around 4:36 p.m. that day, police received a report of a shooting at Loring Tower apartment building.
The initial group of officers entered the building around 4:39 p.m. and found multiple victims on the ground, while hearing gunshots coming from upstairs. As the officers followed the sound upstairs, limited visibility due to smoke caused two officers to be shot and fall to the ground, with a third officer sustaining minor injuries.
Authorities stated that a total of four individuals were found shot at the scene, with one person dead inside the apartment building, another person succumbing to injuries after being taken to the hospital, and two others still undergoing treatment.
An official from the city hall informed local news channel 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that among the three officers who were shot, one underwent surgery after being shot in the abdomen, with their condition currently stable; another officer was shot in the leg, with non-life-threatening injuries, while the third officer sustained minor injuries.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz mentioned on X that the state’s public safety team is responding to the downtown shooting incident, with state government officials arriving at the scene to assist local law enforcement, promising timely updates as more information becomes available.
As of that evening, personnel from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) had arrived on the scene to conduct investigations.
Authorities advised the public to avoid the area between 12th Street and Franklin Avenue, from Hennepin Avenue to 3rd Avenue South. Some metro transit services were also canceled in the affected area. This is an ongoing developing incident.
Currently, neither the police nor local government have disclosed the identity of the suspect, only stating that the investigation is underway.
According to a source speaking to KSTP TV station, the suspect had been evicted from the apartment earlier that day, leading to a dispute. Police had responded to the suspect’s apartment earlier in the day before the shooting occurred.
An eyewitness mentioned to local media that the shooting took place around an elevator in the apartment building. Another source stated that the suspected gunman had died by suicide.
